Kata Requirements for Promotions
(Please refer to your Student Manual for any other promotion
requirements)
The Giordano Family Methuen Karate Association uses a 15 Kyu ranking system consisting of 5 colored belts to be earned on the Karateka's journey to his or her Black Belt. Each of the 5
Belts, White, Blue, Yellow, Green and Brown has two Kyu ranks associated with it. The following list explains the GFMKA ranking System regarding the katas the must be known for each Kyu
rank.

Assist in teaching class with a Black Belt two times a month If a student has trained for 2 years* (from receipt of Brown Belt) and is proficient in the Katas listed above, he or she may be invited to attend Black Belt promotion. A list of additional requirements is available from Hanshi if the student is invited.

Note: Under 14 years of age will be a Junior Grade Black Belt. 18 years and over will be tested for Senior Black Belt. (by invitation of promotion board)
Each kyu in each belt will be awarded in class when a student has met the requirements for that kyu. The minimum length of training is based on consistent attendance in class. Two nights a week.
