Pinian Sono Yon
This kata begins from the meditation stance at the command 'Makso'. When the command 'Prepare for 'Pinian Sono Yon' is given, the student steps out to the 'Yoi' position - Heiko dachi. With Ibuki breathing, cross arms in front of throat and bring to sides. From this position the kata is started.
- With ibuki breathing, pull your arms back down to your sides, ending in you stance.
- From yoi dachi, turn to the left in a kokutsu dachi and high twin forms block (open handed).
- Shift to the right in a kokutsu dachi with high twin form blocks (open handed).
- All at conce face and step forward into a left zenkutsu dachi with reinforced chudan uchi uke.
- Bring the back (left) foot up to meet the right in musubi dachi, palm-over-palm to the right.
- After a brief pause, jam a chudan yoko geri into an opponent rushing you fron the left, then turn in that direction and land in a left zenkutsu dachi as your left hand (over kicking leg) grabs and pulls your adversary into a right elbow strike.
- Pull your right (back) foot up to meet the left in musubu dachi and turn clockwise a quarter turn to resume facing the direction you were in just before the previous attack, and bring the hands to palm-over-palm left. The same kick, step, and elbow strike will be used to subdue an enemy approach from the right, so that you end in a right zenkutsu dachi doing a left elbow strike.
- Suddenly you are approached from behind (45 degrees to your left) where you first strike with a left shuto uchi uchi, and then pivot to face the attacker, striking with a right shuto gammen uchi
(using your left hand to parry an overhead attack).
Drive forward (45 degrees to the right) first with a mae geri jodan, and then - as you land in a kake dachi - reach with your left hand to grab your opponent and finish with a right uraken gammen uchi (right hand comes from under the left). Kiai with the punch.
Now turn just over half circle clockwisre and reposition your feet into a left zenkutsu dachi as you perform a double collar hold break (right hand over left, 3-count).
Deliver a right mae geri chudan, (landing in a right zenkutsu dachi), followed by 2 seiken chudan tsuki (left, right).
Turn in a quarter circle to the right and repeat the same maneuvers (double collar hold break with left hand over right, left kick, punch right, left).
Now, turning slightly counter clockwise to face the direction you came up, assume a left zenkutsu dachi with a reinforced chudan uchi uke.
Advance two more steps in the same manner, ending in left zenkutsu dachi.
Begin once more to take another step, but reach out suddenly instead, grabbing your opponent by the head with 2 hands and forcing him into a right hiza geri, with kiai.
Turn counter clockwise a half turn into a left kokutsu dachi (facing forward) with a shuto mawashi uke.
Step forward into right kokutsu dachi, shuto mawashi uke, scouting the area one last time to be sure none of the enemy is moving.
Return to 'Yoi' position - Heiko dachi, cross arms in front of throat and bring to sides. Wait in this position until the 'Rei' command is given to end the kata.
