Pinian Sono Ni

This kata begins from the meditation stance at the command 'Makso'. When the command 'Prepare for 'Pinian Sono Ni' is given, the student steps out to the 'Yoi' position - Heiko dachi. With Ibuki breathing, cross arms in front of throat and bring to sides. From this position the kata is started.

  1. With Ibuki breathpull your arms back down to your sides, ending in Yoi stance.
  2. Execute the following techniques in short sequence, with close attention to the stances from which they are performed:
  3. Move into kokutsu dachi to the left, with High Twin Form (closed hands).
  4. Tettsui with right hand (keep same stance) to temple (left hand to right ear)
  5. Pull left hand back to punching chamber, then slide into kiba dachi with seiken chudan tsuki.
  6. Move into kokutsu dachi to the right, with High Twin Form.
  7. Tettsui with left hand (keep same stance) to temple (right hand to left ear)
  8. Pull right hand back to punching chamber, then slide into kiba dachi with seiken chudan tsuki.
  9. Now, what was just considered your right side becomes the direction you face (temporarily) as you pull your right foot back to meet your left in musubi dachi, hands are palm-over-palm on the left.
  10. With opponents approaching from both sides, you must quickly deliver a right yoko geri, returning to the same stance, then turn to your left, step forward into a kodutsu dachi, with shuto mawashi uke.
  11. Now, stalking your opponent, you take 2 steps forward with kodutsu dachi, with shuto mawashi uke, then suddenly attack by shooting forward into R. zenkutsu dachi with a left-handed downward parry, followed by a nukite to the solar plexus, with a loud KIAI.
  12. As per Pinion Sono Ichi, proceed with the 'four corner' version of the kokutsu dachi and shuto mawashi uke so that you end up facing diagonally in the opposite direction you face now.
  13. Slide your front foot to the left until you are in a left zenkutsu dachi facing back down the 'I'.
  14. At the same time, sweep your right arm down, to the outside, and around until you touch your own left ribs, ending with a right hand chudan uchi uki.
  15. Follow with a right mae geri, landing in a right zenkutsu dachi, and end with a left seiken chudan tsuki.
  16. This time with the left hand, do a chudan uchi uke (strong, on a 3 count), and follow with the left mae geri, lend in left zenkutsu dachi, and end with a right seiken chudan tsuki.
  17. Burst into right zenkutsu dachi with reinforced chudan uchi uke, with a loud KIAI.
  18. Now, slide your left foot back and turn counter-clockwise (2700) into a left zenkutsu dachi facing to the side, delivering first a left gedan barai, the retract the hand to the punching chamber and deliver a left nukite (palm down) to the throat of the second opponant 450 to the right.
  19. Step in to jam an overhead attack with a right jodan uke.
  20. Turn to your right and repeat the same combinations (gedan barai, nukits, jodan uke).
  21. Finally by stepping back and truning slightly to your left, you should end the kata facing the same direction in which you started.
