| FROM THE RUMBO NEWSPAPER: The Giordano Family Methuen Karate Association promoted 5 students at its satellite school at the Lawrence Boys and Girls Club on February 8, 2008. The students who were presented with yellow belts included Bianca Baez, Cheyenne Alexander, Britney Keber, and Tishana Clayton, and blue belt Khiavette Guzman. The Giordano Family MKA has partnered with the Lawrence Boys and Girls Club for more than eight years, and the program has been popular with the students. Giordano Family MKA Assistant Instructor Mark Hicks has been teaching at the Boys and Girls Club for the last two years. “These kids have worked hard and earned their promotions,” stated Larry Giordano, Shihan at Giordano Family Methuen Karate Association. “Our partnership with the Lawrence Boys and Girls Club has been a great success. You can see how karate is a good infl uence on the children at the Club. They have more self esteem, confi dence, and gain the understanding of how persistence pays off. Giordano Family MKA, formerly known as MKA, was founded in 1968 by Shihan Larry F. Giordano. The “school of the rooster’s” mission is to promote the traditional, spiritual, and educational goals of karate do through the discipline of Kyokushin Karate. Shihan Giordano holds the rank of Haichidan 8th Dan. His efforts have been recognized internationally, including being inducted into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame and the Hawaiian International Martial Arts Hall of Fame, and named Master Instructor of the Year by the International Hall of Fame for World Head Sokeship Council.
